  • PROFILE

    Dr. Mota is Executive Director and Group Leader at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular (iMM) in Lisbon. She is also an invited Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lisbon. Dr. Mota was previously a Principal Investigator at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, a European Science Foundation Young Investigator and an HHMI International Research Scholar. She is also member of EMBO, and has been distinguished with the 2018 Sanofi-Institut Pasteur -International Mid Career Award.

    INTERESTS

    Her lab studies the complex interactions between the malaria parasite Plasmodium and the human host. A better understanding of these interactions is needed to effectively control this parasite.

    • Liver and blood stages of infection cross-talking.

    • Parasite nutrient sensing and adaptation.
