PROFILE
Beatriz Escudero Pérez is Junior Group Leader (DZIF) at Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg (Germany) since 2021. Prior to this, she performed a PhD and a Post-doctorate at the Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI), in Lyon, developing antiviral therapeutic strategies and studying the role of Ebola virus soluble glycoproteins. She was then awarded a Postdoctoral Marie Curie Fellowship at the Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI), Heinrich Pette Institute where she developed xenochimeric mice.
The group research currently focuses on deepening the understanding of the mechanisms that renders some species and not others susceptible to the infection of emerging viruses. A second focus consists of exploring the bat virome and providing a bridge between ecology, virus discovery and pathogenesis. (Read full CV).

RESEARCH
INTERESTSOur group aims to develop small animal models that can improve the translation of the immune processes observed during zoonotic infection diseases in humans. We focus in emerging viruses such as Ebola virus, Nipah virus and Marburg virus. We also have a One Health approach to provide vital intelligence to predict and reduce the risk of future emergence of zoonotic viral diseases and characterize the potential risk for public health of viruses discovered in field studies.
