HIGHLIGHTS OF
THE PROJECTOur project takes advantage of a specialized team of cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and engineers to tackle challenging aspects of common cardiovascular diseases. We are currently developing: i) suitable mini-pig models and minimally-invasive surgical methods for device implantation; ii) a cardiac resynchronization therapy device for chronic implantation; with the aim to show beneficial effects of cardiac resynchronization therapy in experimental heart failure and experimental pulmonary hypertension.

PROFILE
Dr. Leite-Moreira is Full Professor of Physiology & Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. He is also the Head of the Department of Surgery and Physiology and the Coordinator of the Cardiovascular R&D Center of the same institution. He has an appointment as a Senior Consultant of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the affiliated University Hospital São João in Porto. Over the years he has been granted more than 12 million € on competitive calls and was awarded several major scientific prizes.

RESEARCH
INTERESTSHis main research interests include heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, pulmonary hypertension, and surgical and technical innovation in cardiac surgery, using a bench-to-bedside approach and back.
