HIGHLIGHTS OF
THE PROJECTIn the current project we have completed the map of genomic alterations of chronic lymphocytic leukemia by sequencing and reanalyzing the genomes and epigenome of more than 1100 patients. We have identified novel mutated genes, mutations in non-coding regions, structural alterations, de novo reprogrammed regulatory regions and discovered novel transcriptome defined subtypes of the disease with clinical implications. We have also discovered the presence of early diversification of the original tumor clone generating diminutive subclones that remain dormant for many years before expanding massively at different time points of the disease and eventually transforming to a deadly aggressive lymphoma. We have also designed and validated novel bioinformatic tools to facilitate the genomic analysis in research and clinical practice.

RESEARCH
INTERESTSHis research is focused on the pathological characterization of lymphoid neoplasms and the study of molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of these tumours with particular interest in the translation of this knowledge into the clinical practice.
