DESCRIPTION
When a patient is undergoing surgery to the heart or lungs, they need to have oxygenated blood pumped through their tissues by an artificial heart-lung machine. This device is operated by a highly-skilled professional called a perfusionist.
Most accidents related to the use of such procedures are caused by human errors and failures at facing critical incidents. Therefore, intensive and ongoing training is essential to improve safety.
This project has developed a novel web training platform based on 3D physiologically realistic simulation games. It provides a cheaper and more ubiquitous way of training, complementary to conventional education and physical simulation. Mainly addressed to perfusion students and practitioners, its goal is to significantly enhance their skills and confidence, consequently contributing to safer interventions.
