DESCRIPTION
Advanced Parkinson’s disease can cause major fluctuations in movement symptoms, which makes it difficult to adjust treatment throughout the day. Continuous infusion therapy can help some patients, but current systems do not respond automatically to the patient’s needs and often require manual adjustments. The goal of this project is to develop an intelligent system that personalises treatment delivery in real time, so that therapy can respond better to each patient’s motor state.
Experts in Parkinson’s disease, clinical research, digital health and artificial intelligence will develop a system that continuously monitors motor symptoms collected through wearable sensors and recommend dose adjustments, which the infusion pump will deliver. This continuous adjustment would improve motor symptom control, autonomy and quality of life.
The project lays the foundation for a new generation of patient-centred infusion therapy for advanced Parkinson’s disease. Because it relies less on fixed schedules and more on the patient’s changing needs, this system may reduce symptom fluctuations, improve daily functioning and advance towards more precise treatment decisions.
