DESCRIPTION
The hippocampus is a brain structure involved in the construction of episodic memory, related to autobiographical events that can be explicitly stated or conjured and which influence decision-making and actions.
These functions are the result of sequential activation of a variety of neurons coordinated by very fast brain waves. Some of the mechanisms involved show alterations in certain neurological disorders such as epilepsy, insomnia and Alzheimer’s disease.
The project seeks to enhance understanding of the hippocampal sequential code associated with the formation of memories. It employs artificial intelligence techniques and aims to design new strategies that enable the episodic memory to be restored and maintained in this type of pathologies.
