DESCRIPTION
Chagas and leishmaniasis are both tropical diseases caused by parasites transmitted by insects. They have very serious effects in impoverished countries, where they cause thousands of deaths.
Population m0vements and climate change are contributing to the worldwide rise in cases of these two diseases. This even includes in the developed countries, where effective treatments against the illnesses are not yet available or produce serious side effects, and against which the parasites have developed resistance.
This project, in collaboration with the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) and the Pasteur Institute of Korea, proposes a novel approach to discover new natural compounds against these two diseases, aimed at speeding up the discovery of new therapies.
