DESCRIPTION
Recent research has discovered new therapeutics for psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases that target keratinocytes, the main skin cells. By focusing on a protein (TREX2) found only in keratinocytes, the project opens avenues for a new approach to treat this disease without compromising the immune system. Previous studies in animals and human models of psoriasis have shown that this new therapy can reduce redness and swelling associated with the disease, without the immunosuppressive problems that come from current treatments.
The project aims to move this new therapy closer to being available for patients. The project team will test how well it works and how safe it is, comparing it to current treatments. They will also make sure that it can be used safely in humans by studying how the body handles the treatment and by completing required safety checks. Finally, the team will work to protect the rights to this discovery and make plans to bring it to the market, working with pharmaceutical companies and investors.
If successful, this new treatment could change the way psoriasis and possibly other skin diseases are managed, offering hope to people seeking better and safer options.
