  • DESCRIPTION

Some cancers result from harmful exposures at work. Yet routine oncology care in Spain often fails to identify this link owing not only to limited knowledge but also to a lack of practical procedures for busy clinical settings. Many patients may therefore not receive the occupational recognition, follow-up and social protection to which they are entitled. This project aims to design, implement and evaluate a clinician-friendly workflow that helps oncology teams identify, document and communicate suspected work-related cancers.

The team will combine expertise in oncology, occupational health, epidemiology, data science and implementation research to develop a workflow for collecting occupational histories, organising information and generating clear reports for clinicians and patients. Digital tools will improve consistency and efficiency without requiring oncologists to have expertise in occupational health.

This workflow could help identify occupational cancer more easily in routine practice, improving transparency, prevention, equity and access to legal and social protections for workers and their families. The model might also be scalable to other cancers, healthcare settings and regions.
