  • DESCRIPTION

Patients preparing for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation often experience frailty, reduced physical reserve and greater vulnerability to complications, which can impact recovery, quality of life and transplant outcomes. This project aims to evaluate whether a digitally supported physical activity programme designed to strengthen patients before and after transplantation improves their recovery.

The programme, built on previous work, will be delivered through a digital platform and monitored remotely by healthcare professionals. A team with expertise in transplantation, physical activity, digital health and translational research will analyse patient outcomes to evaluate whether the programme is effective and safe in real clinical settings. The researchers will also investigate biological markers linked to frailty and recovery that could help evaluate risk and personalise future interventions.

This approach could improve functional capacity and reduce transplant-related complications, enhancing survival and quality of life for transplanted patients. More broadly, this low-cost, scalable strategy may help hospitals provide safer, more accessible support before and after transplantation.
