A comprehensive approach to tackling major health challenges
The work carried out by the CaixaResearch Institute aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the immune system and its relationship with the illnesses prevalent in society, such as neurological, oncological and infectious diseases, whilst also taking into account the environmental factors that influence them.
We take a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to research, which is organised into three core scientific areas and five cross-cutting programmes that promote knowledge from different perspectives.
Innovation as a driver of social transformation
We promote research that transcends the limits of knowledge to create a real impact on society, because we believe that innovating means transforming ideas into solutions that improve people's lives. That's why we foster a culture of innovation that supports researchers at every stage, from the conception of a project to the transfer and effective application of its results. This ensures that knowledge translates into progress and well-being for everyone.
Infrastructure and technology at the service of research
We provide our teams with state-of-the-art scientific infrastructures and technology to boost the generation of knowledge and anticipate the future challenges for research. We also have specialised technical platforms, a hub for biomedical data and the NextLab space.
All this infrastructure will form part of a new 20,000 m² centre, high-tech and sustainable, which we are building next to the Science Museum CosmoCaixa. The centre will have teams led by internationally renowned scientists and will promote collaboration within a solid scientific ecosystem with the aim of ensuring equal access to resources, information, training and advanced technological equipment.
From the laboratory to society
Science only advances when it's shared. That's why we encourage dialogue between research and society, promote scientific talent and foster the transfer of knowledge so that discoveries translate into real improvements in people's lives.
A key player in the research ecosystem
The CaixaResearch Institute will carry out its own high-impact scientific programme but will also form the backbone of a stable collaborative ecosystem made up of six leading centres with which ”la Caixa” Foundation has a special relationship: the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) and the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM).
This collaborative approach will enhance existing cooperative efforts, encourage new synergies between scientific communities and ensure that the centres take advantage of the great potential offered by the CaixaResearch Institute's scientific and technical resources.
